- What types of poultry can be PT tested?
Poultry that can be tested:
- Chicken
- Guinea
- Pheasant
- Quail
- Partridge
- Chuckar
- Turkey
- Peafowl
Poultry that can not be tested:
- Waterfowl
- Pigeon
- Dove
- Does my flock qualify for testing?
Poultry must be at least 16 weeks of age or nearing sexual maturity to be PT tested. Sex of bird does not matter.
- All adults
- Adults and chicks – same flock
- Adults / chicks Texas PT/NPIP PT Clean
- Adults / chicks no source
First year (qualifying testing)
- Test 100% of flock up to 500 birds
- Qualifies breeding flock, hatching eggs and baby poultry
Subsequent years
- Test 10% less of flock up to 500 birds
- Minimum of 50% of flock must be tested
- All new birds introduced to the flock
- Why do I need to test my poultry?
All domestic poultry used in the production of offspring for the sale or trade be Pullorum-Typhoid negative. In addition, poultry going to public exhibition or public sale must be tested for Pullorum-Typhoid and found to be free of infection, or originate from a certified Pullorum-Typhoid Clean Flock.
